The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines eclectic as:
“1: selecting what appears to be best in various doctrines, methods, or styles 2: composed of elements drawn from various sources.” This is the best way to describe my style. I use a variety of techniques that I learned from massage school, other therapists & continuing education courses, added a few moves of my own, and developed a “routine” that gets rave reviews! The body is an amazing machine composed of many parts that are all connected, therefore I feel it is beneficial to give a thorough, head-to toe massage. Of course, I always spend more time on a person’s “problem areas” and skip areas that a client does not want me to work on. I like to begin the massage with the client supine (on their back) and end with them prone (face down). This way, I am touching their head and face after washing my hands, before applying cream and before touching their feet. Also, by the time I get to their back, which is where most people hold their tension, the muscles have already relaxed a bit, allowing me to work deeper and more effectively. In general, I use a firm (not painful) touch, but am always willing to adjust the pressure to the client’s taste.
